Heartbeat Vikis
A viki (video wiki) on Heartbeat is a written page whose timestamps play YouTube moments in a docked player beside the text, with images. Anyone signed in can write one with Create, Write a viki; all are listed at h.ki/vikis.
A viki on Heartbeat is a "video wiki": a written page whose timestamps play YouTube moments in a player docked beside the text, with images among the paragraphs. You write one on h.ki with Create > Write a viki (signed in), add moments by pasting what Copy as viki copies, and drag images in; every public viki is listed at h.ki/vikis. h.ki/how-to-viki puts it as "Vikis (video wikis) combine writing + video + photos!" and "Anyone can write a viki".

What a viki page shows
Open any viki, such as h.ki/about (Heartbeat's own "What is ❤️ Heartbeat?"), and you see a back arrow, the title, the writer with a Follow button, a heart with its count of likes, Share, and the view count. The text runs on the left; each timestamp in it is a link that plays its moment in the docked player on the right, and the player's list holds the viki's moments in order, so the video keeps pace with the reading. "More from" the writer follows below (seen Nov 7, 2026).
A viki adapts to the window: widen it and the video grows, narrow it to a phone's width and the layout rearranges, as the Nov 1, 2024 video shows.
How to write a viki
- Go to h.ki, signed in, and choose Create > Write a viki at the top right (h.ki/how-to-viki; h.ki/about words it "Write a viki"). The button does not appear signed out.
- Type your text. Headings, bold, italics and centered text are in the editor's menu.
- Add moments (below).
- Drag images in from your computer.
- Save, and view it as readers will.
To add moments, find a video you made moments in (or one you like) on h.ki, click the three dots under the player, choose Copy as viki, then go to your viki and paste: every moment arrives as a timestamped line.
To add images, go back into edit mode and drag them from your desktop or Windows Explorer into the viki; Backspace removes one.
Headings and formatting are in the editor's menu, and an Add moment button lists the moments you made recently: click one and it lands as a timestamp you can write after.
A third way: copy a moment's h.ki address from the browser and paste it into the viki, which turns it into a moment line.
Moments from YouTube
For a moment from a video you are watching on youtube.com, press H there with the Heartbeat Extension, title it in the Heart's panel, then open your moments on h.ki and Copy as viki as before. "You can do this for any video from any creator on YouTube," the video says. Making and tuning moments is covered in How to Make a Moment.
Reading a viki: the keys
While reading, press D to go to the next moment and A for the previous one, a quick way through a long viki. h.ki/about's tips list "d - Next timestamp", the Right arrow to "Skip ahead 5 seconds", and "? - See all hotkeys".
? opens the dialog with every key; the full list is on Keyboard Shortcuts.
Finding vikis
Click Vikis in h.ki's sidebar for the list of everyone's vikis. On Nov 7, 2026 h.ki/vikis showed a grid of cards (image, title, writer, age) with Sort by Last updated (the default), Latest or Title, and a Sort direction of Descending (default) or Ascending.
h.ki/how-to-viki names some "Great vikis": h.ki/founders-favorites, h.ki/power-of-heartbeat, h.ki/women, h.ki/music, h.ki/music-non-english, h.ki/movies and h.ki/talent. Some vikis have readable names like these, listed at h.ki/pretty-links; the rest have an id starting "vi" (h.ki/vi63n0hk4). How a readable address works is on Your Heartbeat as a Website.
What people use vikis for
Uses shown in Freedom!'s videos include favorite parts of songs, a lyric video made from moments where YouTube had none, collections of film scenes and game moments, and Wikipedia-style articles with the matching video beside each paragraph. In the Feb 2025 video a viki shows a low-quality and a remastered version of the same Super Bowl commercial side by side.
Vikis and Vi.ki
h.ki's sidebar links Vi.ki under More from Heartbeat as the "Viki prototype" (Nov 7, 2026). Vi.ki, where this page is hosted, is a separate site of video wikis, one per subject; Heartbeat's own vikis are the same idea inside Heartbeat, each one a page by one writer. The relationship is told in History of Heartbeat.
What we think
We think Copy as viki is what makes the format workable: writing timestamps by hand is slow and error-prone, and pasting a whole video's moments at once turns an hour of work into minutes. The limit we see is that each viki is one person's page, so a viki goes stale unless its writer updates it; in January 2025 George Vanous described editing vikis together "just like a Google Docs" as coming next, and we saw no sign of it signed out on Nov 7, 2026. We also think vikis read best on a wide screen, where the docked player and the text sit side by side.
