Sign-in and Accounts

Heartbeat accounts use Google sign-in only, with no password of Heartbeat's own; signed out you can watch moments, read vikis, search and play riddles, trivia and tools, while saving moments, favorites, follows, comments and Heartbeat Photos need an account.

Heartbeat accounts are Google accounts: the Sign in button at the top right of h.ki goes straight to Google's account chooser, and no other way to sign in is offered (seen Nov 7, 2026). In the Dec 25, 2023 features video George Vanous says it the same way, on clicking Follow: "you have to sign in first signing in is as simple as signing in with your Google account". Heartbeat's privacy policy adds that because it uses Google Sign-In, "we do not store nor control your password". Most of Heartbeat can be read without an account; making anything needs one.

Quick facts

Sign-in method Google only (Sign in with Google)
Password None of Heartbeat's own; Google handles it
Where sign-in returns freedom-api.h.ki, the sign-in service of Freedom!, Heartbeat's publisher
Your account is called Your "heartbeat", at h.ki/@<handle> (Profiles)
Cost Free (h.ki/about: "free to use for everyone")
Other apps No App Store or Play Store app linked anywhere on h.ki (Nov 7, 2026)

How do I sign in to Heartbeat?

  1. On h.ki, click Sign in at the top right.
  2. Choose your Google account in Google's window, and allow Heartbeat the profile and email access it asks for.
  3. You return to Heartbeat signed in, with My heartbeat in the sidebar holding your moments.

Vi.ki stopped at Google's chooser and did not create an account, so the screens after it (choosing a handle, any welcome steps) are not described here from our own look.

Once you are in, the features video advises claiming your handle early: on his own heartbeat George opens the edit button "where I can change my handle make sure to reserve your handle so no one else takes it".

What you can do signed out

Checked in Chrome, signed out, on Nov 7, 2026:

Works signed out Needs sign-in
Watching moment pages and video pages (Moment Pages, Video Pages) Saving a moment (+ Moment, the H key)
Reading vikis, playlists and profiles Save ("Sign in to make your opinion count.")
Search, creators, tags (Search, Creators) Comments ("Please sign in to leave a comment")
Riddles, trivia, Fun and Tools (Riddles and Trivia, Heartbeat Fun and Tools) My heartbeat ("Sign in and start creating your own moments")
Sharing a moment's link, the ? shortcuts dialog Heartbeat Photos ("Sign in with Google")
Opening h.ki/as/<handle> (Your Heartbeat as a Website) Follow (the features video, at 3:29)
Dark and light mode from the three-dot menu Writing a viki ("Write a viki" appears only signed in)

We think this split is sensible for a site built on sharing links: anyone you send a moment to can watch it without an account. The cost is that a visitor cannot try making a single moment before signing in, which is the one thing Heartbeat most wants them to do.

The extension and your account

The Heartbeat Extension saves moments to your heartbeat, so it works with the same Google account. In the Aug 18, 2023 launch video of the extension, its Heart button opens the website where the moments can be managed, and George shows himself there "signed in with my Google account".

Payments and your account

Heartbeat pays creators for quality content (h.ki/about says monthly, by bank transfer, PayPal or Payoneer). The payment details are entered in your signed-in account; Freedom! made a video on it, "Add your payment info on ❤️ Heartbeat" (Nov 17, 2024). What that screen asks for is visible only signed in. See Quality Content and Payments.

Deleting your data

Heartbeat shows no "delete account" page to a signed-out visitor. Its privacy policy, the Freedom! Privacy Policy last modified Feb 2, 2024, says: "At any time, you may delete any data you provided when signed into a Site", and that accounts "inactive for at least six months" may be purged (Privacy Policy). Because sign-in is through Google, you can also remove Heartbeat's access to your Google account in Google's security settings, as the policy points out for data read through YouTube's services.
