Open a YouTube Video on Heartbeat
To open a YouTube video on Heartbeat, replace "com" with "h.ki" in its address, so www.youtube.com/watch?v=ID becomes www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=ID, which redirects to h.ki/yoID; typing h.ki/yo and the id does the same.
To open a YouTube video on Heartbeat, replace com with h.ki in the video's address and press Enter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ becomes www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ, which Heartbeat redirects to h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ, the video in Heartbeat's player with its moments beside it. George Vanous, who makes Heartbeat, shows it in his Jul 13, 2025 video: "simply replace the com with h.ki and press enter. That will take you to heartbeat where you can see the same video." You can also type the short form yourself: h.ki/yo followed by the video's 11-character id.
Quick facts
| The trick | Replace "com" with "h.ki" in a YouTube address |
| Where it lands | h.ki/yo<YouTube id>, a 301 redirect (checked Nov 7, 2026) |
| Also works on | Shorts (/shorts/<id>), YouTube Music (music.youtube.h.ki), links with &t= |
| Does not work | Channel pages (www.youtube.h.ki/@handle answered 404) and playlists |
| Not the same thing | h.ki/watch?v=<id> (dropping "youtube" too) showed "Page not found" |
| Needs sign-in | No for watching; yes for saving moments (Sign-in and Accounts) |
How do I open a YouTube video on h.ki?
- On a YouTube video, click the address bar.
- Change the com in
youtube.comto h.ki, leaving everything else as it is:https://www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=ZF6t_GD_KIk. - Press Enter. Heartbeat sends you on to
h.ki/yoZF6t_GD_KIk, the same video on Heartbeat (Video Pages).
Or skip YouTube: type h.ki/yo and paste the video's id straight after it, with no slash. The id is the 11 characters after v= in a watch address.
The page lists every moment people have made in the video, plus the timestamps Heartbeat imported from its description and comments, so you can jump around a long video without scrolling through YouTube's comments.
What each address did on Nov 7, 2026
Vi.ki requested each form of address on Nov 7, 2026 and recorded the answer:
| You type | Heartbeat answers |
|---|---|
www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ |
301 to h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ |
youtube.h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ (no www) |
301 to h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ |
music.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ |
301 to h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ |
www.youtube.h.ki/shorts/0HAETg7L15o |
301 to h.ki/yo0HAETg7L15o (Turn a Short into a Video) |
www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ&t=90s |
301 to h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ?t=90s, and the video started at 1:30 in Chrome |
www.youtube.h.ki/@freedom |
404 |
www.youtube.h.ki/playlist?list=... |
301 to h.ki/yoplaylist?list=..., not a working page |
h.ki/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ |
"Page not found / Please check if you have the correct link" in Chrome, signed out |
The last row matters because it is an easy mistake: the trick replaces only the three letters "com", so "youtube" stays in the address. Removing it as well gives h.ki/watch?v=, which Heartbeat does not serve.
Saving a moment once you are there
In the same video, once the Superman trailer is open on Heartbeat, George clicks + Moment at the part he likes, then presses H for the next one, and has three moments in a few seconds before giving each a title. That is what the trick is for: saving a moment of a video you are already watching on YouTube without installing the Heartbeat Extension. Saving needs a Google sign-in; the step by step is on How to Make a Moment.
The Dec 25, 2023 features video gives the same instruction ("just replace .com with h.ki and it'll take you to the same video on heartbeat"), and h.ki/about and h.ki/how-to-heartbeat list it as their first tip.
Watching without YouTube's ads
Heartbeat has promoted the trick as a way past YouTube's video ads: in a Nov 12, 2023 video George says that when an ad plays, replace .com with h.ki "and voila you now see the same video without an ad on heartbeat". h.ki/about says the same.
Asked "is this legit?", the same video gives Heartbeat's reason: YouTube does not show ads on videos embedded on some sites, and Heartbeat, which plays every video through YouTube's own embedded player, says it chooses not to enable them. That is Heartbeat's explanation; YouTube decides which embeds carry ads, and its rules can change.
We think the ad-free point is the least durable part of the trick, since it rests on a YouTube setting outside Heartbeat's control, while the part that lasts is the moment list beside the video, which YouTube's own watch page does not have.
YouTube Music
The Jul 13, 2025 video also opens a song from music.youtube.com on Heartbeat the same way and saves two favorite parts of it as moments. Replacing "com" in music.youtube.com/watch?v=<id> gives music.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=<id>, which redirected to h.ki/yo<id> on Nov 7, 2026. The song then plays as an ordinary YouTube video, with no YouTube Music queue around it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I open a YouTube video on Heartbeat?
Replace "com" with "h.ki" in the video's address and press Enter, or type h.ki/yo followed by the video's id, for example h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ.
Does replacing "com" with "h.ki" still work?
Yes. On Nov 7, 2026 www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=<id> redirected to the video on Heartbeat, for watch pages, Shorts and YouTube Music. Only "com" changes; h.ki/watch?v=<id> without "youtube" showed "Page not found".
Does the start time carry over?
Yes. A link with &t=90s redirected to h.ki/yo<id>?t=90s, and the video started at 1:30.
Do I need to sign in to watch?
No. Watching, browsing the moment list and sharing work signed out; saving a moment, favorites and comments need a Google sign-in.
Does a view on Heartbeat count on YouTube?
h.ki/about says "1 view on Heartbeat is 1 view on YouTube!", because the video plays in YouTube's embedded player. YouTube Help does not say how it counts such views in a creator's analytics.
Can I do this on a phone?
In a phone's browser, yes. The YouTube app shows no address bar, so copy the video's link with Share, then change it before opening it.
