Video Pages

A Heartbeat video page, h.ki/yo followed by a YouTube video's 11-character id, opens that video at 0:00 with every moment people made in it, plus chapters Heartbeat imports from the video's description and from viewers' timestamp comments.

A Heartbeat video page shows one YouTube video at h.ki/yo followed by the video's 11-character YouTube id, and next to the player it lists every moment made in that video, including chapters that "heartbeat automatically imports" from the YouTube description or from the comments, as George Vanous put it in "Heartbeat features - No fluff" (Dec 25, 2023). For example, the YouTube video youtube.com/watch?v=IWreyRnkCJk is h.ki/yoIWreyRnkCJk on Heartbeat.

It is the same layout as a moment page, started at 0:00 instead of at one moment's second. This page describes what a signed-out visitor saw on Nov 7, 2026 (Heartbeat 2.107.59).

Quick facts

Making the address

Take the id from any YouTube address, the 11 characters after watch?v= (or after youtu.be/ or shorts/), and put h.ki/yo in front of it:

On YouTube On Heartbeat
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nr2Q9KEiUjQ https://h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ
https://youtu.be/ZF6t_GD_KIk https://h.ki/yoZF6t_GD_KIk

Heartbeat also advertises a shorter trick: replace "com" with "h.ki" in the YouTube address, so www.youtube.com/watch?v=<id> becomes www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=<id>. On Nov 7, 2026 that address answered with a redirect to the same video's page at h.ki/yo<id>. Dropping "youtube" as well, as in h.ki/watch?v=<id>, is not the same thing: that showed "Page not found". What the page shows

Part What it is
Player The YouTube video, embedded, from 0:00
Under the player The video's title, a line such as "83 moment views • 5 heartbeats • 0 watching now", and "From YouTube", the video's YouTube description
Comments Heartbeat's own comments on the video; signed out, "Please sign in to leave a comment"
Right-hand toolbar + Moment, previous and next moment, the time, 2 and 10 second jumps
Right-hand list The video's moments, "Community" by default, then suggested moments

On a video page the left sidebar starts folded away, behind a small arrow at the top left, so the player takes the width (Home and Sidebar).

Chapters imported from YouTube

Heartbeat reads chapter lists that already exist for a video and turns each line into a moment in the list. The source menu above the list names where each set came from, under "Imported from YouTube Chapters":

  • From video description: the uploader's chapters, the timestamps YouTube itself turns into chapters.
  • From comment 1, From comment 2: timestamp lists that viewers posted in the YouTube comments.

On h.ki/yoIWreyRnkCJk, a recorded live music set, the menu offered From comment 1 and From comment 2 on Nov 7, 2026, and the Community list showed each track of the set as a row with its start time.

George's example was the same kind of video: "longplay music videos where there are no chapters", where Heartbeat "imports from the comments all the chapters created by helpful fans", so the track list stays beside the player instead of being buried in the comments, and a click jumps to the track.

Where more than one comment has a list, the menu lets you choose which comment to follow, or Community, which "aggregates all the chapters from all the comments and video descriptions in one place" along with people's own moments.

The import works the other way too: the list's More > Copy as YouTube Chapters copies a video's moments as a timestamp list that a creator can paste into a YouTube description.

Moments, favorites and playlists on a video page

Everything else works as on a moment page: Sort by (Popular, Newest, Start time), the heart to favorite a moment, d and a to step through the list (Keyboard Shortcuts), Add to playlist (Playlists) and + Moment or h to make your own, which needs sign-in (How to Make a Moment). A video with no moments yet shows an empty list; the page still plays the video.

What we think

We think the imported comment chapters are the most useful thing a video page does for someone who has never made a moment: on a two-hour DJ set or a full album upload, YouTube shows the fan's track list as a comment you have to scroll back to, while Heartbeat keeps it next to the player and d steps through it. The limit is that the page depends on someone, the uploader or a fan, having written the list; we saw no sign of Heartbeat making chapters from the video itself, as YouTube's automatic chapters do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a YouTube video on Heartbeat?

Put h.ki/yo in front of the video's 11-character YouTube id, as in h.ki/yoNr2Q9KEiUjQ, or replace "com" with "h.ki" in the YouTube address (www.youtube.h.ki/watch?v=...), which redirects there. Both worked on Nov 7, 2026; h.ki/watch?v= without "youtube" showed "Page not found".

Where do the chapters on a Heartbeat video page come from?

From the video's YouTube description and from viewers' comments that list timestamps; the list's source menu names each one ("From video description", "From comment 1"). People's own moments are added in Community.

Can I copy Heartbeat moments back to YouTube as chapters?

Yes. The list's More menu has Copy as YouTube Chapters, which copies the moments as a timestamp list for a YouTube description.

Does a video page need sign-in?

No, it plays for anyone. Making moments, commenting and saving need a Google sign-in.
