Playlists

A Heartbeat playlist, at h.ki/li plus seven characters, is a list of moments that can come from many YouTube videos, each starting at its own second; it shows as a chip on the home grid and in a video's moment list, and anyone signed in can make one.

A Heartbeat playlist is a list of moments, so unlike a YouTube playlist it can gather the best seconds of many different videos, each starting at its moment's time; the Freedom! tutorial "How To Create Best Of Playlists From Multiple Videos Using Heartbeat" (Jul 11, 2024) opens by promising "a playlist with multiple moments from multiple videos". Each playlist has its own address, h.ki/li followed by seven characters, such as h.ki/ligaatrhk, "The Witcher moments".

h.ki/about states the difference from YouTube directly, of the playlists in its vikis: they can start each video at a chosen time, where a YouTube playlist always starts each video at 0:00.

What a playlist page shows

Opening a playlist's address shows Heartbeat's home grid with the playlist's own chip selected at the front of the chip row ("The Witcher moments", before "Heartbeat", "Women", "Music" and the rest), and its moments as cards, each with a thumbnail, title, creator and age (Home and Sidebar). The browser tab reads "The Witcher moments - Heartbeat". A card opens that moment's page, where the video plays from the moment's second (Moment Pages).

A playlist also appears inside each video it touches: a moment page's source menu has a group "Playlists in this video", and choosing one fills the right-hand list with that playlist's moments.

Making a playlist

These steps need a Google sign-in, so we could not repeat them on Nov 7, 2026; what follows is what the videos show and what the signed-out page offered.

  • From a moment page: the list's More menu has Add to playlist, and the source menu ends with New playlist and a Create button.
  • While making a moment: in "Heartbeat 101 with Cornish: Capturing Heartbeat Moments and playlists" (Sep 13, 2024), Cornish clicks "save to playlist" in the moment editor and creates a new playlist named after the game he was playing.
  • From Heartbeat Studio, many at once: the Jul 11, 2024 tutorial opens Studio's Content, ticks seven moments from several Deadpool and Wolverine videos, chooses "Save the playlist", and creates "Best of Deadpool vs Wolverine", adding them to an existing playlist at the same time.

The finished playlist then sat on the creator's own heartbeat, under its Playlists tab, with "seven moments in this playlist", playing moments "from multiple YouTube video sources" (Profiles).

Order and playing

Cornish's playlist could be sorted by start time, and played from the first moment it went "straight to the next" one he had captured. Heartbeat's API lists a default_sort_order for each playlist ("custom" for "The Witcher moments"), so a creator can also keep a hand-made order.

Sharing a playlist

A playlist is shared by its address. Cornish pasted his playlist's link into his own YouTube video's description, so that a viewer clicking it opens "the heartbeat playlist" of the best bits of that video. Whether a playlist is public depends on its visibility setting: the public API showed "The Witcher moments" as public on Nov 7, 2026, and George's heartbeat listed 83 playlists that day.

Playlists and vikis

A playlist is a list; a viki is writing with moments in it (Vikis). Both mix videos, and on a viki page the docked player's list is the viki's moments in order, so a viki works as a playlist with text around it.

What we think

We think "a playlist of seconds, not of videos" is the most practical thing Heartbeat offers a casual viewer over YouTube: a best-of across a whole season or a whole tournament is not something YouTube can make without someone re-uploading clips, and Heartbeat does it from the original videos. The catch we see is the address: a playlist opens as a chip on the home grid, not as a page with its own title, description and play button, so a shared playlist link looks much like Heartbeat's front page to someone who has never been there.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Heartbeat playlist?

A list of moments, at h.ki/li plus seven characters. The moments can come from different YouTube videos and each starts at its own second.

How is a Heartbeat playlist different from a YouTube playlist?

A YouTube playlist lists whole videos that start at 0:00. A Heartbeat playlist lists moments, so each item starts where its moment starts, and it can mix many videos.

How do I make a playlist on Heartbeat?

Sign in, then use Add to playlist or New playlist in a video's moment list, save to a playlist while editing a moment, or pick moments in Heartbeat Studio's Content and save them as a playlist.

Yes, it is an ordinary link. Cornish did this in a Sep 13, 2024 video so viewers could jump to his best bits.
